From working dogs and breed information to training, sports, and wellbeing, there will be something happening throughout the day for all ages to enjoy. Visitors are welcome to watch, ask questions, and in some cases even get involved.

Demonstrations and talks will be taking place in the demo rings and activity areas around the field. Please check the programme on the day for exact times.

Police Scotland Dog Unit

We’re pleased to welcome Police Scotland Dog Unit to The Big Doggy Day Out, where visitors will have the chance to see the dogs and learn more about the important work they do.

Police dogs play a vital role in modern policing and are highly trained to assist officers in a wide range of situations. From searching for missing people to detecting scents and helping keep the public safe, these dogs must go through extensive training and work very closely with their handlers.

Throughout the day, the team will be available to talk about the training involved, the different types of police dogs, and what it takes for both dog and handler to do this demanding and impressive job.

There will also be a scent detection demonstration, giving visitors the chance to see these highly skilled dogs in action and learn how their incredible sense of smell is used in real life situations.

This is a great opportunity to meet the team, ask questions, and see first-hand the amazing work carried out by Police Scotland and their dog unit.

Carnicross Scotland

We’re delighted to welcome Canicross Aberdeenshire to The Big Doggy Day Out, where visitors will be able to learn more about the fast-growing sport of running with dogs.

Canicross is a fun and active sport where dogs and their owners run together using specially designed harnesses and equipment. It’s a great way to keep both dog and handler fit, while also building a strong bond through training and teamwork.

Throughout the day, the team from Canicross Scotland will be on hand to offer advice, tips, and guidance for anyone interested in getting started. They will be happy to talk about the equipment used, how to train safely, and what to consider before taking part in the sport.

Visitors will also be able to see the gear up close, ask questions, and find out how to get involved, whether you’re completely new to canicross or already enjoy running with your dog.

This is a great chance to learn more about a fun and energetic activity that can be enjoyed by both dogs and their owners.

Deesidedly Flyball

We’re excited to welcome Deesidedly Flyball, a local team based in Deeside, Aberdeenshire, who train dogs and owners in all aspects of flyball — a fun, fast-paced sport that dogs and handlers enjoy together as part of a team.

Flyball is a high-energy relay sport where dogs race over jumps, trigger a box to release a ball, and return to their handler at speed. It’s a great activity for active dogs and is suitable for many different breeds, helping build confidence, fitness, and teamwork.

Throughout the day, the team will be giving demonstrations and will be happy to talk about how the sport works, how dogs are trained, and what’s involved in getting started.

Visitors will be able to watch the races, ask questions, and see the equipment up close, and there may also be opportunities for some dogs to have a go at flyball in a safe and controlled environment, under guidance from the team.

This is always a crowd favourite and a great chance to see some very fast and very enthusiastic dogs in action.

Scurry - Zoomies

We’re pleased to welcome Zoomies Dog Park, who will be running a fun have-a-go scurry at The Big Doggy Day Out. This is a great chance for dogs and owners to try a simple gundog-style activity in a relaxed and friendly environment.

A scurry is a fun challenge based on a dog’s natural retrieving ability, where dogs are sent to collect an item and return it to their handler as quickly as possible. These games are often seen at country shows and are designed to test speed, teamwork, and control while still being enjoyable for dogs of all breeds and experience levels.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to have a go with their own dogs, learn more about this type of training, and get advice from the team running the activity. It’s a great way to give your dog some mental and physical exercise while trying something new together.

Whether your dog is a working breed or just enjoys chasing a ball, the scurry is always great fun to watch — and even better to take part in.
